North Dakota Students Compete for Global Honors
KNOXVILLE, TN – 12 teams of North Dakota students arrived in Knoxville, Tennessee on Tuesday to compete against 1,200 teams from 45 states and 9 countries in the 2012 Destination ImagiNation Global Finals Tournament.
Students from Centennial Elementary, Central Cass, Northern Cass and South Fargo made the 20 hour journey south to test their skills against the top creative problem solvers in the world.
Destination Imagination is an after school activities in which students in teams solve mind-bending challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. The teams advancing to Global Finals won top places at the State Tournament in April.
All 12 teams will be competing in both instant challenge and their central challenge. Instant Challenge is a competition where students think on their feet and present a challenge within eight minutes. The Central Challenge students have been working on since September in which they’re given an open ended problem and they present their final solutions at tournament.
Destination ImagiNation emphasizes the importance students’ creativity and thinking on their own. The Global Finals competition is being held Wednesday through Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee.
